IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (4/15/24)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

High school baseball and softball are in season, so this quote from Los Angeles manager Ron Washington is timely.  Washington has been in major league baseball as a manager and player for over four decades.

He said, "I'm not a perfectionist.  I like to do things right because I know there's no perfection in this game, and if I do it right, and it turns out wrong, it won't affect me mentally because I did what I was supposed to do.  You can always do the right thing in the game of baseball and not get the right result.  That's what I'm trying to get these young kids to understand.  They think when things don't go right, it's the end of the world.  When things don't go right, you go to work!"

When you participate in any sport, more things will likely go wrong than right.  It's the harsh reality of the sports world.

While we all strive to be perfect and perform at the highest level, it's not going to happen every time you practice or play.  Remember Ron Washington's advice and on good days or bad, go to work!
